Short answer: yes, Phu Quoc is one of the easiest places in Vietnam to travel with kids. One island gives you a safari park, two big water parks, the VinWonders theme park, a beach with starfish in ankle-deep water, calm shallow beaches and evening shows with fireworks. Three things make or break the trip: the season, keeping days short enough, and protecting your child from the sun.
When to visit Phu Quoc with children
- Dry season, roughly November to April. Little rain and calmer seas — the best time for beaches and boat trips.
- Rainy season, May to October. Downpours are usually short, but the west coast gets waves and boat trips are sometimes rescheduled because of the weather.
- Temperatures stay around 25–33 °C all year; April is the hottest month.
With little ones, plan active things for the morning (before 11 am) and after 3 pm, and keep midday for the pool, lunch and naps. The island runs north to south: Vinpearl Safari, VinWonders and Rach Vem are in the north, while the Hon Thom cable car and Sunset Town are in the south, in An Thoi. Don't try to do both ends of the island on the same day.
| Place | Where | Best for | Time needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinpearl Safari | north | ages 2–3 and up | half a day |
| Rach Vem beach | north | any age | 1–2 hours |
| Aquatopia (Hon Thom) | south, by cable car | ages 3–4+; big slides 7–8+ | full day |
| VinWonders | north | school-age kids and teens | full day |
| Sunset Town shows | south, An Thoi | kids who stay awake past 9 pm | evening |
Vinpearl Safari: animals up close
The safari park in the north is the most kid-friendly spot on the island. The walking area has enclosures, shows and animal feeding run by park staff. In the open zone, where giraffes, zebras, antelopes and big cats roam freely, you ride in an enclosed bus, so it's safe for little ones and involves no long walks.
- Hours: daytime roughly 8:30–9:00 am to 4 pm (as of October 2026, check before you go); there is also a night safari.
- Tickets by height: 140 cm and over pay the adult rate, 100–140 cm the child rate; according to ticket sellers, kids under 100 cm go in free. The park changed its prices on 7 January 2026, so check current rates on the official site: vinwonders.com.
- Food: outside food isn't allowed, but park rules make an exception for baby and children's food.
- Rules: don't feed the animals unless staff say so, and no flash photography. Children under 140 cm and under 14 must be with an adult.
Tip: go in the morning, when the animals are more active and the heat is still bearable. Bring a light stroller or a carrier, because the walking area is large.
Rach Vem: starfish in the shallows
By the fishing village of Rach Vem on the north coast, red starfish lie in the shallows just off the beach. The water is knee-deep, so even toddlers can look at them up close. The most starfish are usually seen from about December to April.
The key rule: never take starfish onto the sand or hold them out of the water for long, because that kills them. Look, take a photo, and put them straight back. Water shoes help, as there are shells and stones on the bottom.
The safari and Rach Vem fit well into one day since both are in the north. On our tour the park tickets are included, you're picked up from your hotel, and a Russian-speaking guide goes with the group. It's a long day (from 8:30 am into the evening), so it suits kids who handle car rides well.
Aquatopia water park on Hon Thom
You reach Aquatopia by cable car from An Thoi: about 7.9 km over the sea and islands, roughly a 15-minute ride, which many kids count as an attraction in itself. On the island there are slides of different levels, a lazy river you float down in rubber rings, and kids' zones with shallow pools.
- Hours: roughly 9–10 am to 5 pm, depending on season and weather (as of October 2026, check before you go).
- Tickets: water park entry is included in the cable car ticket. Kids under 1 m go free, 1–1.4 m pay the child rate (for 2026, check before you go).
- The cable car runs to a timetable with a midday break, so check the return times as soon as you arrive.
- The bigger slides have height limits — check the sign at the entrance.
VinWonders: a full day at the theme park
VinWonders is right next to the safari: rides, a water park, a large aquarium, themed streets and shows. It's best for school-age kids and teenagers, since toddlers are too small for some of the rides.
- Hours: the official site lists 9 am to 7:30 pm daily, with some zones closing earlier (as of October 2026, check before you go).
- 2026 tickets: adults (140 cm+) about 950,000 VND, children (100–140 cm) about 710,000 VND. A VinWonders + Safari combo ticket is also available.
VinWonders and the safari on the same day is too much for a small child, so split them across two days.
Sunset Town and the evening shows
Sunset Town in An Thoi is a pretty seaside quarter with the Kiss Bridge, next to the cable car station. Two shows run in the evening: Symphony of the Sea at around 7:30 pm and Kiss of the Sea at around 9 pm, with fireworks over the water (for 2026; the schedule changes with weather and season).
Kids love it, but it finishes late. If your child is usually asleep by nine, pick only the first show or the daytime option. Pack kids' ear defenders, because the fireworks are loud.
Our Hon Thom and Sunset Town tour comes in two versions: daytime with the cable car and water park, or evening with two shows, dinner and fireworks — or both as a combo. With toddlers one version is usually enough; the combo works better for older kids.
Calm beaches for little ones
- Sao Beach (south-east): white sand and a gentle slope; the water is very calm in the dry season.
- Ong Lang (west): quiet coves without crowds, but it gets waves in the rainy season.
- Long Beach by Duong Dong: handy if your hotel is nearby; the sea is usually calm from November to April.
A simple rule: from November to April the west coast is calmer; in the rainy season, head to the east coast.
What to pack and how to choose a tour
What to pack:
- SPF 50+ sunscreen, a sun hat and a long-sleeved swim shirt;
- water shoes;
- water, snacks and baby food;
- motion sickness remedies for the drive north and for boat trips;
- plasters, antiseptic, spare clothes and a waterproof phone pouch;
- kids' ear defenders for the fireworks.
How to choose a tour with a child:
- Check the length. Eight to ten hours on the road and on their feet is hard for under-fives, so go for a half-day or evening trip instead.
- Hotel transfers are included on most RUVI tours, so you don't need a taxi with a child.
- Child prices. On many RUVI tours, kids under 100 cm go free (shown on the tour card), and taller kids get a separate child price.
- Tickets included. When park tickets are part of the tour, you skip the ticket queue in the heat.
- Tell us your children's ages and heights when you book. A booking is confirmed once the deposit (from 30%) is paid.
We've been running tours on Phu Quoc since 2016 and regularly take families with kids. If you're unsure which trip suits your child, message our manager and we'll help you choose.
FAQ
What age is Phu Quoc good for?
Starfish, the safari and calm beaches work for kids from about 2–3. Water parks with big slides and VinWonders suit school-age children and teens best.
Do kids under 100 cm really go free?
At the Vinpearl and Sun World parks, kids under 1 m usually go free, and the child ticket covers 100–140 cm (for 2026, check before you go). On many RUVI tours, kids under 100 cm also go free — it's shown on the tour card.
When are there the most starfish at Rach Vem?
Usually from December to April, in the dry season, when the water is clear and calm. Don't take them onto the sand — look and put them back.
Is the Kiss of the Sea show too late for a toddler?
It starts around 9 pm, so you'll get back to the hotel late. If your child goes to bed early, choose the first show at around 7:30 pm or the daytime Hon Thom option.
Which water park is better with kids, Aquatopia or VinWonders?
Aquatopia is the pick if you want the cable car ride and a day in the south. The VinWonders water park is in the north next to the safari, and entry usually comes with the theme park ticket (check when you buy).
